What "GST accounting" has to do, and what the software does for you

A GST-registered business in India has three recurring jobs: raise tax invoices with the right CGST, SGST or IGST split, keep input tax credit on purchases straight, and report both in GSTR-1 (outward supplies) and GSTR-3B (the monthly summary and payment) on time. Most small businesses do this from a spreadsheet and a folder of PDFs, then hand the lot to a CA at the end of the month.

FlipAccounts does the bookkeeping underneath those returns. Every invoice, bill, payment and bank line posts a balanced journal entry, so the GST figures are a by-product of the books rather than a separate exercise.

Built for how Indian small businesses actually work

Where filing happens. FlipAccounts prepares the GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B figures and keeps the supporting ledger. The return itself is filed on the GST portal by you or your CA. Keeping the books here means the figures on the portal and the books behind them agree, which is what matters in an assessment.

Getting started

  1. Create the company Enter the business name, GSTIN and state. The chart of accounts and the Indian tax rates are set up for you.
  2. Bring in the opening balances Enter last year's balance sheet as an opening journal, or send it to your accountant to do in the app. Then upload bank statements from the first day of the financial year.
  3. Work month by month Invoices and bills as they happen, the bank statement once a month, GST summaries from Reports. Anything the app cannot classify waits in a suspense list for you to decide.

Frequently asked questions

Is FlipAccounts really free for GST accounting?

Yes. Core accounting is free with no card, no trial period and no limits on companies, users or transactions. We plan to earn from optional add-ons such as online payment collection, never by locking up your books.

Does it file my GST returns?

It prepares the GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B figures from your invoices and bills. Filing happens on the GST portal, by you or your CA, using those figures.

Can my chartered accountant see my books?

Yes. Add your CA to the company as an accountant, or as a read-only auditor. They see the same live books, the audit trail and the statements pack, and can export to Tally or Excel at any time.

Which bank statements can it read?

CSV and Excel from any bank. PDF statements from HDFC Bank and IDFC FIRST Bank are read directly, line by line, with the running balance checked. Other banks' PDFs are read with AI and then checked the same way.

I already use Tally. Why switch?

You do not have to switch. Many users keep the live books here, where the bank reconciliation and the team access are easier, and export to Tally for the CA at year end.
